All hail the Emperor!

This is just too funny and fascinating to keep to myself...

Not a great insightful tome, I know, but hey...I thought it was kinda cool!

I just thought the article was interesting, that's all. Wanted to share it with the blogging public. I found it funny that 1) the people of San Francisco at the time were so willing to tolerate and even humour the delusions of someone like Joshua Norton, and 2) he proclaimed himself emperor in a country that's always been ardently devoted to its republicanism (indeed, the USA is probably the most famous republic in modern history, and will remain so I think for a very long time!) Appreciated a certain sense of irony in that regard...

Sorry, couldn't see the forest for the trees.

I guess too many years of school have trained me to look for some deeper meaning and I missed the irony completely.

Now that you've pointed it out, I do see the humour.

Miss your regular blogs, hope everything is ok.

    Hello Blake:

Oy ... oy, oy, oy! Poor Emperor Norton. Damn ... why didn't we think of naming Langley Norton? Or even better yet Emperor Norton. Huzzah!
